Just getting ready to go to a one day conference on mental health & wellbeing in later life. This is being held in Hampden Park Glasgow, This is an important issue particularly with more and more people entering the third age & more are on there one for several reasons. I hope to be able to post several bits of useful information.


I hope all are looking after their self's remember that if you do not take care of your self's you have no hope of looking afters an loved one.

An other wet day over our wee bit of East Renfrewshire ( E R ). Most of the back yards are in a mess. Please take care if you are taking the bins out.

As the year rushes on we will all be getting letters about all sort of things from rent & c tax to pensions. If it is getting hard to understand contact our local Citizens advice ( C A B ) or you can contact  E R's money advice centre.

          Barrhead office of E R you can see the money advice people here. The local C A B is just over on the other side of Main St. The main ting is you do not suffer by your self.

Out and about

Out and about today getting a few picture for blog also paying rent ect so sad . just a note East Renfrewshire Council ( E R ) have transferred any credit on Council tax to tax year 2014/15 so do not worry your payments will be carried forward .

I have been studding report on E R rent account's and have submitted a question on the breakdown. I will  post information if and when I revive a reply.

I have been invited to attend a one day conference on mental health on Thursday. This I being held at our national football stadium. It has been a long time since I have been in the park.

Take carer if you are putting anything in the bin's. I was just putting stuff in the brown bin about 4 inches of mud.

I have had a nice morning through in Edinburgh. I think the city fathers should spend some time explaining howto cycle on or near tram tracks saw 3 people have misshapes in the short distance from Lothian Rd to the Scott Monument.

I spent some time on the train back composing a flyer for a meeting which I hope to announced soon.

update

Just an update on this mornings post. I was down at to-days briefing of the Men's shed which was held in the work/training units about the centre of the picture. This was a very interesting morning. The people who have set things up have worked tireless to get things off the ground. It is hoped that the Mens's shed will open in the spring.

Its Monday

This fine Monday morning at 11am will see the opening of the Barrhead men's shed. This is a group of people who are starting this project for people ( women  & men ) in the over 50s group. The men.s shed idea started in Australia and has spread to the U K. There are several in operation in Scotland. The hard working team who are pioneering the venture in Barrhead hope to have thing like woodwork & other handy person crafts up and running.

To day is a sort of taster brainstorming day so come along and give us your views of thing you would like to do,or do you have skills that you could pass along.

East Renfrewshire Council ( E R ) offices you can access range of services at this office but please remember that the staff are only doing their best so do not abuse them.

On Wednesday night one of our tenants called out the emergencies repair service the people who came out were unable to complete the repair. This is a costly service which is a charge on the housing account. I will be contacting  E R to request that we do not pay for this call out & all call out are on a no fix no pay basis.This in more of an issue now that we have been hit with a 5% rent rise. We must insure that all contracted services deliver the service that all tenants are paying for.

If you are having difficulty paying this above inflation rent rise contact E R's money first for advice. This is a free service they can advise and contact all creditors to arrange a better way for you. But they can not pay your debts for you.

Well that a record at bloger  towers we had a brain block. The emergence guy was unable to repair. So this morning I contacted our council to complain. We had a visit from East Renfrewshire Council ( E R )try as he could he could not effect a repair. So this evening (8pm ) a jet drain clean unit arrived. It is hoped the repair will be work this time.

Just back from a meeting with Barrhead Housing ( B H ) a good informative meeting.

Well E R have passed the dreaded rent hike we will be watching the outcome to see how much hardship this will cause.

To morrow the 13th our wonderful council will be meeting to discus the rent hike which appears to be way above the current inflation rate. The other point wages are just not keeping up with the real cost of living so how can this hike of 5% be justified.
                   There is still time to register a protest with your councillor should you wish.

      I hope you are keeping dry & warm. I have had a look at Dundee University satellite picture of the coming weather.

  If you know about any child abused do something about it no child should be harmed.

It is a sad reflection on socialite that in 2014 we have to have people relying on food bank's to survive.

good Monday

Hi gang with all the woes that are going on I have declared that this is world  happy Monday day.

Our long vacant lock of much needed flats in Kerr St Barrhead I almost dropped my breakfast no the floor as I looked out from blogger towers people had the secure door open. I hope that this is the start of the work.

 Do not let this be you I was doing the Skype thing with a contact in the tenants movement in the deep south east there is a noticeable escalation of people in mixed tenure block's of flats not having their gas serviced . If you have not had your gas serviced & you are a tenant please contact your landlord if you are an oner get  it serviced

Friday news

Just got a flyer from Voluntary Action I was just rushing out the door so jut had a quick look so I will post what's on soon..

I was having an attack of the poor me's thinking of all the silly things that come with age. That was until I saw a young girl being lead across the car park with a whit stick I was brought down to earth with a bang. What a part I am.

I was down in Silverburn to day they have a display on the development program this is worth a visit.I had a short conservation with the complex manager one of the issues mentioned was the poor transport to Barrhead during the evening. Later on to day after a doctors appointment I will take a few snaps around town and I hope to publish the rapid moving changes going on. Do you have any photos of old Barrhead preferably unpublished ones I would like one's of the old high schools in Barrhead perhaps the old one that was on the Main St & Grahmston. Anyone remember walking from the Main St  school to Grahmston for wood/ metal work ?.

Request from little bird

Please take care of your self and keep warm. Make sure that you are on the correct power tariff & check on any vulnerable relative or anyone near you. Just found out about local senior who was on the highest possible tariff. The person is now on the correct tariff as this lady can use a computer it is an on line tariff & she has received a reasonable credit for this error.She was not asked if she could access a computer when the power supplier was contacted about supply. Please insure that you are on the correct tariff.

In our local area we have received a letter from East Renfrewshire ( E R ) Council about the communal water tank in the loft. Please contact E R if you have any questions regarding the issue.

Are you having issues about wheelie bins & the recycling blue/brown bins please get in contact and let us know about any problem you may have .
