Well our estate walkabout went  O K it is hoped that we will get things done and improve our wee bit of Barrhead in East Renfrewshire ( E R ) . We highlighted various issues and some will be actioned soon.

Various stores are collecting for our local food bank please pot something in even a tin of beans will help. Our local  Tesco has a collection point and a list of what is best to donate. If you require help you can contact the local C A B on social services who can issue a referral.

I am informed that East Renfrewshire ( E R ) Council will be running the Still Game project again this year.
Some readers will recall I had the privilege to attend the first one.

       The date on flyer is for last year but contacts remain the same.I would recommend this project. The events centre around St Mirren football stadium and part include a tour of the ground. This was interesting even to me. I think football is 22 men chasing a round ball about. Now if it were a real game like rugby!
Still it was worth while & it is hoped there will be spin off events soon.

A baa day

We do not have our usual postman & mail is late. Our service entry system stops at xxxx. Just found out that mail may being returned. I am at my wits end to know what to do. As someone who did that job years ago is shudder to think what the service has come to. I recommend that everyone checks what is happening. Something important may be getting returned.

Tomorrow I hope to have an estate walk around I hope for a wet day.This will show the work that is in urgent need .

The above picture has been submitted for the Muppet's of the year  picture composition. Prize money to charity ( Kids with cancer ) so wish me luck.

Last night I was in a posh part of East Renfrewshire ( E R ). I was in that upmarket supermarket two people in the qua in front of me had their credit cards decline & one was confectioned. The people appeared to  be affluent. Perhaps this shows the real sate of the economy. Once again I recommend if you have any finical issues seek assistance as soon as possible. In E R we have a very good money first service run by our council. If you require assistance please get in contact E R have a drop in service at their office in Main St Barrhead or you can arrange an appointment by calling  E R customer first on  0141 577 3001.
Also  E R citizens advice is just across the road they can help with a range of issues.

Have taken myself out for the day a bit better than sitting in the house. I am not grateful enough that I can do so.There are so many people who are housebound and  never see the outside world from one week to the next.This is why Voluntary Action are planning a serious of events to assist people in this situation. I will post
information over the next few weeks.

Monday Morning

Well it is Monday again and the first month of the year is almost over. I see from the T V weather that by then end of the week we may be having snow. So if you can keep a few tins in the house in case you can not get out. Also remember any vulnerable near you .

  People who failed to return their voter registration forms may revive a visit from staff to check this information. The staff will have proper identification ask to see this they will also have a list of contact phone numbers. Please use the numbers to check. Please insure your safety.

Down at Tesco I see they have a collection point for the East Renfrewshire food bank they have provided a list of the items that they require. Please if you can drop something in to the box even a tin of beans will help.
There are people living in our midst who are going with out food.

To day I was in at Voluntary Action ( V A )  they are on the look out for volunteers to take part in various parts of the Seniors Together project. Do you have any time to spare they are looking for people to take part in the befriending project. This involves visiting a house bound vulnerable person in their home. Perhaps this may involve going out with the person for a cup of tea & brisket. This is a worthwhile activity some of the vulnerable people do not see anyone apart from their home help from one week till the next.

Yes it has been confirmed that our wee hall will remain in council control. As regular readers of this blog will recall  we have asked for anyone who has any project or idea to bring more people in to use our hall to contact us & we will assist. We can work together and bring much needed things to our home area. Perhaps something for the kids (young & older ones ) Perhaps something for vulnerable people.

Things are looking up late last night I revived E Mail someone else is considering joining up to revive our group I live in hope.

At last nights Housing lesion Group meeting we were informed that the rents will be going up by 5% this will be put to the full council for consideration ?.

If you are affected by this please get in touch with the Citizens Advice (C A B)  or East Renfrewshire ( E R ) money first.

You can drop in to the E R offices in main St  Barrhead where hey have a team.

The C A B office is just over the road but they are very busy 

Also do not forget that anyone can also lodge your views or  an objection with your councillor or you can submit your views direct to E R

To night we will be at the Housing Services Lesion Group  ( H S L A ) meeting with East Renfrewshire Council ( E R ) .On the agenda along with other matters customer engagement strategy & welfare reform .

I wonder just how much time people involved in the tenants & residents movement put in most of this is unpaid. We all spend hours going over papers from various bodies. The sad thing is there are very few younger people coming in and some of us are in poor health.So if you can find a few hours a please think about joining your local organisation . This morning I was down \at the recycling unit in the car park at Tesco there was a large amount of empty cans that ta one time contained cooking oil this is commercial dumping and should be stopped .

Our wee hall do you have any ideas to bring things to our wee hall we need to get things in to our area All our vulnerable people could do with things to do it is a shame on socialite that some people do not get out from one week till the next. So lets get moving and get something in to one home area.

Good morning all i was in a large food store only to see a elderly lady looking at the good on offer & when checking prices pot goods down. The lady looked distressed an other lady asked if she was O K only to be told she could not afford the food costs.I can well understand as a shudder at the checkout when I look see the cost of my small shop. What is the answer?. I wish I knew.

To day will be at the East Renfrewshire ( E R ) Tenants & Residents Association Federation over in East Wood  House. The Federation is the main forum for all the tenants & residents groups in E R. This is where all groups can get assistance & support in the never ending battles with the overbearing powers that be .

No  E R is not that bad. To day we will be looking in to the potential rent increase which is above inflation and we all know what the real rate of inflation is. We have concern about how people will manage to pay for everything. Anyone having concern about bills and debt please contact E R's money advice . More on yesterdays meeting

At yesterdays consultation on the draft housing bill we were briefed on private landlord enforcement to ensure that homes meet standards. It is proposed that there will be a first tier tribunal to try and resolve any disputes. This applies to the private sector it is hoped that there will be improvement.

When dealing with antisocial behaviour there is the provision to change the arguments to deal with the tenant . All of this will be put before the parliament in Edinburgh this year.

This morning I was at a meeting arranged by the Tenant Participation Service ( T P A S ).We were consulted on the new Housing Scotland Bill. This consultation cover the changes in the right to buy,anti social behaviour,living standards, plus various other issues. This was a good & productive meeting and views will be referred to the Scottish Government.

On Wednesday there will be a meeting of the federation which I hope to attend as we will be discussing the potential rent rise. If you have any input please contact us on

I have been asked about the picture above it was taken at Kilmarnock railway station April 2004. I am assured the bird spent entire life on the platforms & was fed by passengers.

To morrow I will be attending a meeting to update us on various changes that are coming our way one item will be the changes in allocation's social rented homes

Some people in our area will be pleased to see some of the mixed tenure work continuing. It is hoped that when this ongoing work gets moving we will all see vast improvements to our living conditions.     .

As for to day I am having a day to out.

The wall at our wee park

Yes ! there is more deterioration in the condition of this retaining wall it is now bulging out a bit more. I have informed  East Renfrewshire Council ( E R ). This wall will come down all to soon. Take note E R you have been informed in must be remembered that this road is used by all the emergency services if it collapses life's could be put at risk.

Yesterday's Evening Times there was a interesting item about food banks it higlited the sad fact we now have a food bank in E R. So if you can spare a can or two when out shopping drop them off at Voluntary Action Kelburn St Barrhead, The food bank since it opened only a short three mouths ago have distributed in excess of 488 packs of supplies to desperate families now living in poverty. A resent figure put over 12 million living in poverty in the UK .

Last night along with others I was at the public meeting down in Dunterlie. A bad turn out not a happy bloger as I spent time preparing a flyer and distributing them. As you may recall this meeting was about the rent rise which may be as high as 5% There will be more on this on this blog soon so watch this space.

Do not suffer alone. If you are a tenant of E R do you know that the potential rent rise for year 2014/15 is 5%..This will be on top of all the other increases that are with us or on the way. We all know that the cost of food is on a ever increasing spiral. Do our wonderful elected representatives ( all shapes and sizes ) real understand.

                        There again is it the paid ( by us ) spin doctors who relay run all administrations ?.
